NGU rowers on Munich’s Olympic course: Roko Mijić under the selector’s watch, Nika Cetina racing for the club

Last weekend on Munich’s Olympic course, Metković rowing once again showed its depth and potential on the international junior stage.

Roko Mijić: Two events and a quadruple sculls final

Roko Mijić had a demanding weekend, racing in two events for the national team. In the men’s junior quadruple sculls (JMA 4x), alongside Šime Ravnjak (VK Korana), Petar Hrkać (VK Jarun) and Karlo Svirčić (VK Krka), he reached the elite A final, where they finished 5th.

In the men’s junior double sculls (JMA 2x), racing with Maks Božičević (VK Zagreb), Roko placed 5th in the B final in a highly competitive field of 37 crews, which meant 11th overall in the regatta.

Nika Cetina: A strong club performance in two events

While Roko raced in national team colours, Nika Cetina competed in Munich under the VK Neretvanski gusar banner. Nika, who trains in Zagreb, completed a demanding program in two events over the 2000-metre course. Along with the junior women’s single sculls (JWA 1x), she also raced in the junior women’s double sculls (JWA 2x) with Vita Živčić (VK Karlovac).

Competing on such a strong international stage under the club banner gave her invaluable experience in a direct test against some of Europe’s best young rowers.

Selector’s view: Focus on Roko and the quadruple sculls

The national junior crews were closely monitored by selector Dušan Jurše, with Munich serving as the main checkpoint in shaping the team for the upcoming European Junior Championships, to be held on 23–24 May 2026 in Brandenburg, Germany. The quadruple sculls (4x) will also compete there.

“I’m satisfied with what I saw in Munich because these races showed a realistic picture of our current form. Roko Mijić and his crew in the quadruple sculls met the basic target by reaching the final. The Munich result gives us a clear direction — the potential is there, but before the European Championships we need to work on better technical harmony and more speed in the second part of the course,” Jurše said.

Metković rowers once again proved they belong on the big stage. 💪
